Open AgriLab: an opportunity for discussion and co-design for Lazio’s agri-food supply chain

The initiative promoted by Lazio Innova is linked to the new Agri-food Processing Laboratory in the Monti Reatini area, but is open to all businesses in Lazio’s agri-food supply chain interested in innovation, collaboration and development

The Open AgriLab initiative stands out as an opportunity worth following closely also for businesses and operators in the Sabina area.

Promoted by Lazio Innova, in collaboration with the Monti Reatini SNAI Area and the local municipal administrations, the initiative takes the form of a co-design laboratory connected to the future Agri-food Processing Laboratory of the Monti Reatini, planned at the former slaughterhouse in Rocca Sinibalda. The project is part of the Lazio ERDF Regional Programme 2021/2027 – OS 1.3 and of the Lazio 2 “Monti Reatini” Area Strategy, with the aim of building concrete and sustainable models for agri-food processing.

Although it is linked to the new Agri-food Processing Laboratory project in the Monti Reatini area, Open AgriLab is open to all businesses in Lazio’s agri-food supply chain and presents itself as an opportunity for discussion and co-design also for companies in the Sabina area that see supply-chain collaboration, innovation and the enhancement of local products as a practical driver of growth.

This is probably the most interesting aspect also from GeoSabina’s point of view: it is not just a technical process connected to an infrastructure project, but an opportunity to bring businesses, skills, institutions and ideas around the same table, with a broader perspective on the future of Lazio’s agri-food supply chain.

The laboratory will focus on several concrete themes: building and strengthening networks among producers and breeders, defining the functional use of the future laboratory spaces, designing processing, production and integrated logistics services, and developing shared and sustainable business and governance models in the medium to long term. The methodology includes co-design tables and design thinking, supported by expert facilitators and dialogue among different skills and perspectives.

For businesses in the Sabina area, especially those operating in quality production, processing, marketing or services connected to the sector, Open AgriLab may therefore represent a useful opportunity not only to follow a relevant regional project, but also to bring ideas, needs and expertise into a structured path of discussion and shared planning.

The Open AgriLab programme

The programme includes four meetings:

  • 26 May 2026 in Petrella Salto, with the laboratory kick-off meeting;
  • 29 May 2026 in Rocca Sinibalda, with the co-design working tables;
  • 8 June 2026 online, with a feedback webinar;
  • 26 June 2026 in Petrella Salto, with the public presentation of the project.

The programme starts on 26 May, while applications can be submitted until 25 May at 1:00 pm.

Extended deadline to apply

Another important point to highlight is the deadline extension: expressions of interest can now be submitted until Monday 25 May 2026 at 1:00 pm.

Participation is free of charge and the number of available places is limited to 60 participants. In the event of a higher number of applications, priority will be given to applicants from the reference territory, but the initiative formally remains open to the entire interested supply chain.

An opportunity that may also interest the Sabina area

For GeoSabina, giving visibility to initiatives like this also means helping to spread opportunities that can strengthen the local and regional productive fabric. The agri-food sector is one of Sabina’s strongest assets, and every path that works on supply chains, innovation, processing and collaboration deserves attention.
