The former Church of the Madonna dei Monti in Toffia – according to the pastoral visit in 1776 – was erected by canon Giovanni Battista Blasini from Toffia in 1775, more likely restored than erected at the time.
In the facade there are two iron windows equipped with railing.
Inside there, an altar dominated by a wonderful portrait of the Madonna with Child and carved Ave Montium Stella can be clearly seen.
In 1795, the pastoral visit states that the Church is under the patronage of Ranfi family, and under the altar there is a reliquary with the bones of some Holy Martyrs, “… placed within an urn, visible through an oval with the inscription: bones of the Martyr St. Concordia, and other Martyrs “, but in the 50s of last century the altar appeared entirely walled already.
In the middle of the church there is the tomb of the canon Giovanni Battista Blasini, and cornu epistolae (on the right side of the altar) the one pertaining to the Archpriest of Toffia, Massimo Ridolfi Felice.
Currently the building is desecrated, and a property of Toffia Municipality- that after a laborious restoration has designed it as headquarters for the local station of the Italian Red Cross (Croce Rossa Italiana) – but the former Church of the Madonna dei Monti continues to be year after year a fascinating destination for the procession of Our Lady of Hope (Madonna della Speranza), traditionally held on the September 8 and crowded by the whole Toffia population.
