A few minutes from the charming village of Castel di Tora, overlooking Lake Turano, hides one of the most fascinating and wild corners of Sabina: the Vallocchie Waterfall. An enchanted place, where water glides between rocks and lush vegetation in an atmosphere out of time.
This waterfall, fed by a stream that descends from the surrounding mountain ranges, is reached through a path that starts just outside the village. After a short but adventurous walk, immersed among ferns, mosses and ancient trees, you are confronted with an amazing natural spectacle: the water rushing into a green basin, between rocky walls and cool shadows, creates a cool and evocative environment, perfect for a break or a little photographic exploration.
The path to the Vallocchie Waterfall is also suitable for less experienced hikers, but still requires a minimum of attention, especially in the wetter or slippery sections. The trail is short, but gives intense emotions: the silence of the forest, the scent of the undergrowth and the sound of the water that gets louder and louder as you get closer to the waterfall.
Like many natural beauties of Sabina, the Cascata delle Vallocchie is neither equipped nor marked in a tourist way: precisely for this reason it is essential to visit it with respect. No fires, no trash, just light footsteps and a great desire to discover a still intact nature. The area is home to a very rich biodiversity, with plants and animals typical of the mountainous areas of the Reatino region.
