The current church of Saints Cosma and Damiano was built outside the town gate as the old parish church had now become dilapidated and all the canonical offices that still existed in San Valentino were transferred to it.

The records of the pastoral visit of Cardinal Caracci, which took place in April 1660, confirm the year of the consecration. Later, in 1779, during another pastoral visit, the presence of a baptismal font and eight altars is certified with Cardinal Andrea Corsini: SS. Cosma and Damiano (together with S.Valentino are the protectors of the town), S. Rosario, S. Sebastiano, S.Bernardino, Ss. Name of Jesus (who belonged to the Orsini family), Ss Salvatore and S. Caterina, S. Michele Arcangelo, S. Antonio da Padova. In the church there were also nine private tombs, two of which belonged respectively to the brotherhoods of the Blessed Sacrament and the Rosary. Various restorations were carried out in the years to come.

Four dedicated chapels were erected in the church, the first in the altar of S. Sebastiano, the second in the altar of S. Michele Arcangelo and erected by Francesco Bartoli; the third built on the altar of St. Bernardino by Serafino Salucci, the fourth finally erected on the altar of St. Anthony of Padua by Gian Paolo Faventini. In the church there is a tempera on wood, dated around 1520, depicting the Blessing Redeemer whose execution has been attributed to the school of Antoniazzo Romano. Some valuable paintings are still found in the church, among these there is a mocked Jesus attributed to an unknown Caravaggesque.
