With this itinerary we take you to discover the Nature Reserve Monte Navegna and Monte Cervia, with a 7 km loop hike starting from the village of Collegiove.

A route immersed in nature that will take us on wild trails, up one of the highest peaks in Sabina and finally to admire Lake Turano and the surrounding villages The effort of the climb will be repaid by breathtaking views and the excitement of reaching the cross on the summit of Mount Cervia(1,433 m).

The itinerary

Collegiove

Our journey begins in Collegiove, a small village of about 130 inhabitants located in the province of Rieti.Lying at 1001 meters above sea level, it is the highest inhabited center of the Monti Navegna e Cervia Nature Reserve.
Surrounded by centuries-old forests, meadows and mountains. The town lies within one of the most striking protected areas in central Italy, rich in biodiversity and breathtaking views.
From here we will set off along one of the paths of the Monti Navegna e Cervia Nature Reserve, heading toward the statue of the Madonna of Mount Cervia.

Piè Cervia

From the statue of the Madonna, we continue along CAI path 344 until we reach a key point of the itinerary: Piè Cervia. Located at an altitude of about 1067 meters, this scenic spot offers spectacular views of the Carsolana Valley, the village of Collegiove, the Simbruini Mountains, and, in the distance, Lake Turano. A perfect spot for a rejuvenating break immersed in the beauty of the Navegna and Cervia Mountains Nature Reserve.

The Cross of Mount Cervia

We resume the path, which now becomes more challenging, among rocky stretches and winding paths, climbing toward the summit of Monte Cervia. At an altitude of 1438 meters, we reach one of the highest peaks in Sabina, where we are greeted by the summit cross, a symbol of the achievement.

Next to the cross there is also a memorial plaque and a small crib, which make this place even more impressive. From here the gaze can sweep over the most impressive peaks of the central Apennines, including Mount Terminillo and, on the horizon, the majestic Gran Sasso.

The Varco Valley

We conclude our journey by taking CAI path 343, which crosses the picturesque Valle di Varco. This environment, rich in biodiversity, is home to numerous species of flora and fauna typical of thecentral Apennines, offering a final immersion in the unspoiled nature of the reserve.

Following the trail, we slowly approach Collegiove, the starting and ending point of our itinerary, thus closing an experience rich in landscapes, silences and wild beauty.
