Big Bench #246 by Amatrice

The bright magenta and white bench in Amatrice is situated in an orchard surrounded by apple and cherry trees, at an altitude of 1,000 metres. From here, there is a stunning view of the Monti della Laga and the Conca Amatriciana – a panorama that makes this spot an ideal destination for those seeking tranquillity and natural beauty. The route to reach it is simple and accessible to everyone: just a few minutes’ walk through the apple orchard, after parking at the Casale Nibbi farm, the organiser behind this installation which is becoming a new symbol of the area.

The aim of the project is to expand the area’s tourist offering, inviting visitors to discover an authentic side of Amatrice, characterised by nature, hospitality and initiatives that convey a sense of serenity. A colourful bench with panoramic views that seeks to change common perceptions, reminding us that this area is not just about difficult memories or famous culinary traditions, but also about spaces that offer genuine emotions and moments of light-heartedness. Sitting here, looking out over the landscape from above, it is natural to be inspired by a quote from Italo Calvino that seems to have been written especially for this place: “Take life lightly; for lightness is not superficiality, but gliding over things from above, without heavy burdens on your heart.”
