The Toffia territory, such as a large part of the Sabina Region, has been progressively studded by ancient Roman villas. As a consequence, many fragments of lapidary have been found embedded in the walls or abandoned in the cellars.

At the number 14 in Via Castel di Dentro stands Palazzo Castellani (Castellani Palace), today Grio, maybe restored in the eighteenth century.

In 1878, the archeologist Fiorelli “courtesy of Mariano and Gaspare Castellani, was able to examine a plaque fragment, lying in their underground room. Although very corroded and partially illegible because used for door threshold, it seemed part of another mutilated inscription, which serves as a window at the Bonifazi house, in front of the church of Toffia “[Piazza Loreto].

The two fragments merge, such as the supposed reconstruction of the original headstone, were published in the journal “News of archaeological digs: communicated to the Royal Academy of the Lincei by the Minister of the pub. Education – 1878” and represented a commemoration of Baio Sesto.
