The Museum of Silence, opened in 2004, stands out for its linguistic and structural innovativeness, focusing on the silence that has been at the heart of this place since 1673.

Visitors are welcomed into the “sacred enclosure” represented by the monastery itself, immersing themselves in a sensory, intellectual and emotional experience. The dichotomy between darkness and light, silence and speech, offers the key to understanding the world both physically and metaphorically.

Inside the Museum, 21 vitrines contain common, simple and modest objects. When illuminated, they evoke the power of a historical memory that, even after centuries, reflects on seven major themes that characterized the daily life of the early monastic community:

  1. Prayer
  2. Silence
  3. Discipline
  4. Sewing
  5. Pharmacy
  6. Kitchen
  7. Job
