Cotilia is a locality in the Rieti Sabine known since antiquity for its springs, already appreciated by the Romans for their beneficial properties. Located along the Via Salaria, this area is characterized by naturally flowing sulfurous waters that have played a key role in local history and traditions.

Cotilia’s springs are rich in carbon dioxide and minerals, with beneficial properties for the digestion, skin and respiratory system. In ancient times, these waters were considered sacred and used for therapeutic purposes by the Sabines and Romans.

Today, anyone traveling along the Via Salaria can freely refresh themselves or collect this water directly from the natural springs, just as they did in centuries past. A precious refreshment for travelers and pilgrims, who can still benefit from the freshness and unique qualities of these waters. It is good to know that the springs currently deliver water from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Alongside the natural springs, Cotilia’s thermal tradition is still alive today. Its waters, appreciated since ancient times, are used in modern spa facilities for treatments and wellness.

Thanks to the initiative of the Blue Heart Center , The World of Water, Water for the World, MIA Acea Immersive Museum and LANDITALY – Gecoagri Interuniversity Research Group Association, it is possible to discover Cotilia and its extraordinary landscape through an interactive virtual tour.
