Nestled in the hills of Sabina, the Sanctuary of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Scandriglia is a place of deep spirituality and history. Built between 1478 and 1479 at the behest of Raimondo Orsini, duke of Gravina and count of Nerola, the shrine was entrusted to the Franciscan Amadeites, followers of the blessed Amadeo Menezes de Sylva. The church has a simple façade with a 16th-century portico and an interior enriched with frescoes and works of sacred art.

The foundation of the shrine is linked to a miraculous event. Duke Raimondo Orsini’s son Raimondo Orsini was seriously ill and, despite treatment, his condition worsened. Blessed Amadeo, known for his devotion to the Virgin Mary, was called to the castle of Nerola to pray for the child. After blessing the child and invoking Our Lady, the child was miraculously healed. In gratitude, the Orsini family decided to build the shrine on the site of an ancient chapel dedicated to the Holy Trinity.

Among the most beautiful works to be found are.

The icon of Our Lady of Grace: located on the high altar, this Marian image is the main object of devotion in the sanctuary, recently restored with the support of the local community.

Frescoes and works of art: among the most significant are a triptych attributed to Antoniazzo Romano and a Crucifixion in the refectory, believed to be the work of Lorenzo da Viterbo.

Renaissance cloister: accessible from the church or the portico, it offers a silent and evocative space, ideal for meditation and recollection.

This place, rich in history and faith, continues to attract visitors and pilgrims, keeping alive the link with its spiritual and cultural origins.
