Fonte Vecchia

The Fonte Vecchia di Montasola is an ancient fountain located in the municipality of Montasola, in the province of Rieti, Lazio. It is located close to the road leading to the Madonna di Cottanello, and is an important landmark for the village.
The artifact named Fonte Vecchia dates back to ancient times and, although renovated in recent decades, it retains a very original architectural design of who knows what remote creator.
The main feature is the design of the fountains located on two different levels of the ground: an upper part consists of the dome, the lower one of two basins used as drinking troughs and connected to the first one by a third intermediate basin.
This is a very rare work that deserves the attention of the tourist for its constructive originality. Sabina is enriched by many of these works that have come down to us through time and constitute a unique and unrepeatable folk heritage. At a time of revival and interest in roots, our land deserves special attention.
