Inaugurated in 1985 with the participation of world champion Francesco Moser, the Forano velodrome is the last space in Lazio for track cycling races and training and is the only one in Italy whose concrete track meets the established standards. , that is, the length of 250 meters.
Thanks to this important sports facility, Forano has been recognized as Città dello Sport 2014 (yellow flag), becoming one of the 100 cities in Europe deserving of this recognition.
Over the years, the velodrome has hosted important sporting events such as “Italy-France behind engines”, the Lazio and Umbria Regional Championships, the Italian Track Championship reserved for Paralympic Categories and many amateur races.
Several important national teams have followed one another on its track, including the Cuban one and the Chinese women’s one.
The sports center has also been a cycling school for over one hundred children.
In May 2015, Robert Kovacevic, artist and great fan of fixed gear bikes, painted with his technique all the handrail that wraps the ring so as to enhance the structure in the belief that “art, bicycles and sports can and must coexist “.
The structure was built by the construction company ‘Sausage’ of Tagliacozzo under the supervision of the engineer Giancarlo Ottaviani and is named after the sportsman Elio Rimedio, technical commissioner at the 1960 Rome Olympics.
