The journey begins in Montenero Sabino, a charming medieval village known for its majestic castle and the Church of San Cataldo, embellished with ancient frescoes. The narrow stone streets and stone houses create an atmosphere of yesteryear, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the history and culture of the place.

Leaving Montenero, the trail climbs toward Osteria Tancia, the highest point of the entire stage. Along the way, verdant hillsides open up to spectacular views encompassing the Terminillo, Cervia and Navegna mountains. The descent leads to the mystical Grotto of St. Michael the Archangel, one of the most striking places on the walk.
