Santa Susanna, located in Rieti, is one of the most striking and interesting natural areas in Lazio. This spring is famous not only for its scenic beauty, but also for its historical, cultural and environmental value, so much so that it is placed within the Protected Area, protected by the SAC and declared a natural monument in 1977.

The reserve covers about 3,000 hectares and includes a variety of natural habitats ranging from oak and chestnut forests to meadows and waterways. The flora is particularly rich and diverse, with many species of rare and endemic plants that find their ideal habitat in this area. The fauna is also very diverse: we can find different types of birds, both migratory and resident, such as the cormorant and the night heron, as well as foxes, badgers and deer.

The park is equipped with picnic areas and spaces for children’s recreation. During the holiday season, an illuminated underwater nativity scene is set up in the waters of the springs, adding a touch of magic to the reserve. This place also has an important historical and cultural value in fact within its boundaries are several archaeological sites that testify to human presence since theBronze Age. Of particular interest are the remains of ancient settlements and traces of old Roman roads.
