The Poggio Mirteto Memory Walk: a path of reflection and knowledge is a hiking trail that winds through the territory of the Lazio municipality, in the province of Rieti. The trail is dedicated to the memory of the victims of World War II and the Resistance. The trail begins at the Poggio Mirteto train station and runs on a loop trail of about 10 kilometers that passes through forests, trails, rural roads and historical sites.

The trail touches the following points of interest:

  • Poggio Mirteto train station, where there is a monument dedicated to the partisans who fell in the Battle of Poggio Mirteto (1944).
  • Partisan cemetery, where the fallen soldiers of the Battle of Poggio Mirteto are buried.
  • The Collelungo stone quarry, where some partisans were shot in 1944.
  • Collelungo Cemetery, where civilians killed by the Nazi-Fascists in 1944 are buried.
  • Collelungo Retirement Home, where a concentration camp for Jews and political prisoners was housed.

The memory walk is a challenging journey, but it is also a meaningful experience. The path allows people to learn about the history of World War II and the Resistance in Sabina, and to reflect on the victims of this tragedy.
