The church of St. Anthony was built in the 16th century by Franciscan friars, who also founded a convent there. The church is dedicated to St. Anthony of Padua, one of the Catholic Church’s most revered saints.

The exterior is in Romanesque-Gothic style; the facade is simple, with a central portal and two side windows. The bell tower has a square plan and is located on the left side of the church.

The interior has three naves, separated by pillars. The nave is higher than the aisles and ends in the apse. The apse is decorated with frescoes depicting the life of St. Anthony.

The church holds an important work of art,a painting of St. Anthony of Padua by an artist of the school of Pietro Perugino. The painting is dated to the 16th century and is located on the high altar.

It was once the main church of Poggio Mirteto Scalo, before the construction of the modern Church of the Holy Family.
