Rivodutri is a village located at the foot of Mount Terminillo, nestled in the Reatina Plain. Its origins date back to the 11th century, but the area was already inhabited in protohistoric times, as evidenced by findings near the Sorgenti di Santa Susanna. The town has passed through complex epochs, including its membership in the Guelph League in the 14th century and the subsequent papal reconquests, leaving behind a compact historic center made up of alleyways, panoramic views and stone memories.
Among Rivodutri’s most distinctive symbols is the Porta Alchemica, a stone portal decorated with mysterious esoteric symbols from the 17th-century villa of the Camiciotti family. Just outside the center, the Sorgenti di Santa Susanna gush forth with a flow rate among the most abundant in Europe: here nature shows itself in its purest form, and every year the tradition of the underwater crib is renewed. Nearby is also the famous Beech of St. Francis, a monumental tree that legend links to the Saint’s passage during a storm.
Today Rivodutri is a municipality attentive to the enhancement of its territory and contemporary art. The project “Rivodutri Contemporanea” has brought permanent installations among the hamlets, in a dialogue between landscape and visual languages.
Rivodutri is a small treasure chest of spirituality, creativity and memory to be explored unhurriedly
